Observational Special Education Practicum, Grade 3/4, Bruce Trail Public School, Halton District School Board

  • Observed and worked one-on-one with two students with autism. Assisted educational assistant in teaching new literacy and mathematics skills to the students, practiced and learned new strategies to differentiate for students with autism.

 

Teacher Candidate, Grade 1, C.H. Norton Public School, Halton District School Board

  • Assumed the responsibilities of the regular classroom teacher by teaching 85-90% of the day, working one-on-one with struggling students, leading a guided reading group, supervising a field trip, attending extra curricular meetings such as “Me to We” and assessed student reading by using PM Benchmarking.

  • Assumed the responsibilities of the regular classroom teacher which includesd: assisting students, implementing lesson plans for both grade 3 and 4, assessing student work using principles from Growing Success (2010), recess duties, attending IEP meetings and grade division meetings, providing differentiated instruction for an exceptionally identified student and involved in assisting  primary/junior choir and scrapbook club

  • Participated in the Virtual Grand Technology initiative which required selected teacher candidates to integrate technology into their lessons and attend technology training workshops at Nipissing University throughout the school year
  • Prepared integrated lessons that met the Ontario curriculum expectations for both grade 5 and 6, taught a unit on the Six Traits of Writing, assessed and evaluated student work, taught most lessons using the Smart Board

  • Responsible for selecting a suitable Sunday school curriculum for children ages 4-12, responsible for organizing and leading special children’s programs during holidays (such as Christmas), in charge of supervising children during church services

  • Voluntarily and consistently over the past 7 years have assisted in organizing an overnight summer camp for children ages 8 to 12.
  • July 2012- Volunteered as an assistant Program Director in which I was involved in creating, implementing and supervising the camp program.
